Have you or your children used Facebook/Instagram?
Join us to fight against Meta’s harmful practices

With the support of a number of experts and citizens, SOMI is launching a class action lawsuit against Meta's platforms for exploiting children and young users through addictive features and algorithmic manipulation. By joining this action, you can help protect minors, hold Meta accountable, and claim compensation for the harm caused by these unlawful practices.

SOMI is an independent non-profit organization that wants to protect our society from illegal conduct by BigTech companies.

Support our cause and campaigns throughout Europe by donating and participating.

We aim to gather 50,000 people for our representation in Denmark.

We furthermore aim to gather funding for the lawsuit and associated activities through donation and other avenues.

Donation is not a precondition for being a claimant in the lawsuit.

We are however hoping for 50,000 persons signing up and donating DKK 55 or more per person, so we will have the funds to cover costs and risks.

If you choose to be a claimant in the lawsuit in early 2026, we will in that connection request a registration fee. Any funds that you donate now, will then later be deducted from the registration fee.

If this works, we plan to start our first legal claim in Denmark, against Meta, in early 2026.

What we demand

  • Stop harmful practices: Meta must stop all activities that violate the law and fail to protect minors from psychological harm and manipulation.
  • Fair compensation: Meta must provide compensation to Danish victims, meaning Danish children and adolescents, whose rights and well-being have been harmed by unlawful practices.
  • Protect children online: Meta must implement stronger safeguards to protect children and adolescents from harmful content and platform addiction.

How does this work?

  1. If you or your children have used Facebook or Instagram, start by registering on this website.

  2. Use our form to sign the participation agreement and agree to the privacy statement and please pay any donation if you can spare it.

  3. If and when we reach the threshold of either 50,000 sign-ups or DKK 2.75 million in donations, our team of legal and IT experts will institute the Meta claim.

What is the lawsuit about?

one

Addiction by design

Facebook and Instagram are designed in a way where they are highly addictive, using psychological behavioral designs that keep users, especially children, constantly engaged. All likes, comments, shares, or messages trigger the release of dopamine in the brain, which contributes to a resurgence of symptoms familiar to us from other addictions. Like a slot machine, the rewards are unpredictable, keeping users hooked and coming back for more. However, unlike a slot machine, Meta tailors these experiences using user data, making addiction cycle even stronger and particularly risky for developing brains of children.

two

Algorithmic manipulation

Meta’s social media algorithms act as sophisticated AI-powered engines designed to maximize users’ time on the platform. They analyze every interaction - likes, comments, and time spent viewing content - to build detailed user profiles and deliver increasingly personalized feeds. By continuously serving content that triggers dopamine responses, these algorithms create a “flow experience”, where users feel focused and entertained but can easily lose track of time and reality.

three

Targeting vulnerable users

Children and adolescents are particularly vulnerable to Meta’s addictive features because their brains are still developing. Meta’s products exploit these vulnerabilities, maximizing profit from advertising by keeping young users addicted. The combination of these features creates significant psychological consequences for young users including depression, anxiety, body image issues, sleep problems, and reduced academic performance.

Why join this claim?

  1. Protect your children – Meta’s products exploit young users through addictive design. We must stop these practices and protect children from harmful products.

  2. Demand accountability – Meta must be held responsible for prioritizing profit over the safety and well-being of children.

  3. Compensation for violation – Meta has violated the rights of Danish users. Victims deserve fair compensation for the harm and distress caused.
  4. Sending signal – By joining this lawsuit, you help send a strong message that companies like Meta must respect the law and protect its users.
